UNIT COST ESTIMATING

  • Unit cost estimating is the process of gathering and itemizing all of the probable construction quantities for a project and applying the latest relative historical cost data to each item.

  • The standard format for breaking down quantities and costs in this type of estimating is by using the Construction Specifications Institute’s MasterFormat 1995 or 2016.

    • In most decent sized projects the General Contractor will prepare his or her bid using this format.

    • This format is by Division and is broken down into

      • Division 1 thru 16

      • Division 1 thru 48
